Fun clothing for fun sessions!

We absolutely love for our clients to have fun during a session!  And we have fun as well.  We also love to see it when they bring fun, quirky outfits!  But this time it was a little different!  Matilda Jane Clothing was kind enough to send me an outfit to review and photograph for them!

MJ_001Meet Carissa, our model who agreed to help us out!  She is wearing an outfit from the Paint By Numbers collection from Matilda Jane.  But the fun part is, this outfit is 3 different pieces sold separately.  You can mix and match their individual pieces to create several different looks!  And these colors look great on the solid white background (which I love to shoot)  Just look at the adorable long sleeve Sky View Puffer Tee, it looks great with the Turtledove Knot Top over it, or the tee would be great by itself!  Now how about those Gleam Leggings? The leggings add even more color and more quirkiness to the outfit!

MJ_003Carrisa had so much fun in the studio and outside!  The outfit sure never restricted her movement!  I never heard her complain once about how the outfit felt on her.  Yes, we have all had on cute outfits our parents put us in before that either scratched us like a tow sack or felt like a straight jacket! Not this 😉

MJ_002I also want to comment on the quality.  The pieces all felt extremely well crafted.  The material wasn’t thin, the seams were all sewn tight, I wasn’t afraid she was gonna mess it up playing on the hay bale and jumping around!

MJ_004So, now that you have my opinion on the clothing…I encourage you to check out their website. www.matildajaneclothing.com I am not saying you should purchase Matilda Jane clothing to come to our studio, please don’t think that.  I do encourage you to think about fun, quirky outfits, and how much fun they look in the portraits!

We look forward to photographing your child next!

Eagles!!

Gallery

This gallery contains 11 photos.

There is something about an eagle that captivates me. Maybe it’s because an eagle symbolizes courage, strength, and freedom.  It might be their size, their power, or their ability.  Whatever it might be, I love the eagle.  Thanks to a … Continue reading

Creating a beautiful image!

As I was leaving the studio this evening, I couldn’t help but notice the lovely sunset.  Another beautiful work of art created by the Master!

So I decided to go get a picture of it.  But there is a difference in “getting a picture” and “creating a picture”  So to demonstrate to you the difference, I decided to put my camera on AUTO!!  The following photo was taken with my camera on it’s automatic setting, standing at a normal height. Notice the puddle of water on the edge of the road.

As you can see, my camera had no idea that I wanted to highlight the sky, so it’s automatic setting, said…it’s dark, so I need to slow the shutter down to lighten things up.  WRONG!!  So I switched back to my manual setting and adjusted my exposure for the sky. and I snapped the picture again and got this.Ok…so now we got our sky looking good!  That’s what I was after, however the horizon is right down the middle of the image, and again the camera position is not that flattering.  So I went to the edge of the field and got down low to the puddle of water.  I had my lens zoomed all of the way out to give it a wide angle. On my knee with my hand touching the water, I snapped this. Now this is what I was after!!  A much nicer image!!  And see how the puddle makes for a wonderful reflection?  Yes, I got my favorite jeans a little muddy, yeah my hand got a little wet…but sometimes it’s worth it to create a beautiful image!!

If you would like to see more images of tonight’s sunset, along with more photos from this year click HERE.  Have a great evening!

Corning Lake in the morning.

For so many years, I didn’t realize how big or how pretty our little lake actually is.  Since I don’t have boat, I normally only seen the part of the lake where all of the trash is scattered, and where people target practice.  I had seen the boat ramp, but that’s not really that pretty.  Underneath the train trestle, a little more interesting, but still not the best part.  A little bit further northeast and you see this!  It really makes me want a boat! Good morning!

i’m lovin’ it

I have wanted to take this picture for sometime now, but I always talked myself out of it!  I really didn’t want to get out of my vehicle and place myself next to the highway just to take a picture.  But I finally did! Here is why the result is so good.  The key it the time:  “Magic Hour” 30 minutes before or after sunset.  I chose “after” sunset. That’s when the colors in the sky are most beautiful, and that is when it is just dark enough for the lights on the building/house to really show up.  By doing this and getting the right exposure, it makes for an extremely pleasing image of a very normal place!
