Not Your Regular Valentine Card!

I have never liked the plain ole Valentine’s cards you buy from the store.  Yeah they show off a cool cartoon character, or maybe some cool motorcycles, but why not make it personal?

We decided to fix our boys up with something a little better. Let us know in time so we can get your Valentine’s created so your kid can also have some cool valentines!.  Here Here at Jay’s Photography, we do cards for all occasions!  So whatever the need, call us and let us help you come up with something special!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

How About A Simple And Delicious Treat?

How about spending about 30 minutes, (or less with help) to make a fun treat for a valentines party!!!

Tonight is our church Valentine’s Banquet, so I decided this morning to make a treat I seen on Pinterest!  Here is what you will need.

  • 1-bag of Pretzel Squares or Mini Pretzel Twist (our Walmart didn’t have the squares)
  • 1-11oz. bag of Hershey’s Hugs (Kisses will work, but not as well)
  • 1-bag of Plain M&M’s (I got the pretty valentine colored ones!)
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Parchment or Waxed paper
  • Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°  And place your pretzels on your cookie sheet covered with Parchment paper. My cookie sheet held 70 mini twist! Now, to the most time consuming part…unwrapping the hugs!  This is where a second person would really speed up the prep time!  The first thing I had to do was eat one hug, only to test for the proper taste you know!!  So then I unwrapped and placed the hugs onto the pretzels.  However the bag only had 69 Hugs in it, and I ate one, so now I am only left with 68 treats! So now that I have all 68 hugs properly placed on my pretzels, pop them in the oven for 4-5 minutes.  You want them kinda glossy looking but not melting, just soft.  Now you should open your bag of Plain M&M’s and pour you enough in a bowl.   Be sure and don’t leave your treats in the oven too long, you don’t want them melting and running all over your cookie sheet.  Pull them out of the oven, and let set for about 1 minute.  Then take you an M&M and press into the center.  These are really soft, so there is not much pressing needed!  Now the only thing left to do is let these cool!  If you have room, put them in your refrigerator for about 30 minutes, if not they will cool at room temperature, it will just take longer.  I cheated and stuck them in my freezer for about 2 minutes ( I had to sample a finished product!)  Now I only have 67 left!!

Go ahead try it!  And Enjoy them!!!

P.S. Excuse the lower quality photos taken with my iPhone 4S

Do You Remember Penny Candy?

Candy for a penny? Are you serious?  Yeah…well at least I’ve been told!

While driving past Walmart parking lot today I seen this truck and trailer.Ok…nothing special, but colorful and I have never seen a trailer like this that I can remember!  But what it really done was got me thinking about candy!  This could be due to the diet I am on, however it got my brain rolling.  Just how cheap do you remember getting candy for?

I can remember getting candy quite frequently for .05  I used to love picking out Nickel candy at Leonard’s grocery store before school!  Not only Super Bubble, but Bit-O-Honey, Jolly Ranchers, and more.  The joy was being able to fill a sack for $1 or $2.

But now I must confess my age…I am 31 and I actually remember getting candy for .01  Yes, one penny!  I can remember going to see my Grandparents in Fairdealing, MO and there was a small store there that sold candy for a penny.  I can remember all of the Tootsie Rolls, and not just the regular kind, even all of the flavors!   Pixie sticks, Peanut Butter Bars, you know the kind with the black stripes on the plastic wrapper. So many different kinds to choose from!  That was so much fun!

I visited that same store last week.  I picked up a bottle of water, a pack of juicy fruit, and I looked around to see if there was any penny candy.  SHOCKER: There wasn’t.  Not even for a nickel, or a dime! Al you see now are packs of gum, and bags of candy.  Gone are the days of endless time deciding on how many different kinds of candy you can get in that sack.  And get it all for $1

So think back to what you remember getting, and be sure and tell your kids!  If it was .10, .05, or even a PENNY, tell them about it.  It’s worth sharing!

Want to get rid of that extra weight?

UPDATE 04-20-12: Since December 27, 2011, I have now lost 40 lbs.

UPDATE 03-17-12: Since December 27, 2011, I have now lost 36 lbs.

Below you will see a picture someone took of me at Thanksgiving 2011, and then a picture of myself today, 03-17-12

UPDATE 02-04-12: Since December 27, 2011, I have now lost 24 lbs.

It has been a month since I started trying to shed a few extra pounds and I am pleased to say I have lost 20.4 lbs!  How do you do that?  I get that question a lot!  What diet are you on? Are you taking pills? I hear all of this, so I thought I would share my secrets with you.  I know this post is non-photography related, but I thought I would do it anyways.

First and foremost…the most important tool in my weight lose is (H2O) yep…..water!  Drinking lots of water will do more for you than any pill will.  How much water?  If you want to lose weight it is recommended for women to drink about 90oz. and men to drink about 125oz. per day!  You don’t need much more than that, drinking too much is dangerous! Now, I know you might get some water from the sodas that you drink, but that is my next point!  Drop those sodas!!!  I cut them completely out, so water is my primary substance to drink.  I will have an unsweetened tea now and then.  Yeah I know, that is hard…we live in the south…tea is supposed to be sweet!!! lol Do you have High Blood Pressure? Water is one of the best things to levelize  your Blood Pressure!  So, to lay the foundation, get rid of sodas and drink water…lots of it.

My next discussion will be counting calories!  I do not count carbohydrates or fat grams.  I simply count calories.  I know my calorie limit for the day and I stick with it!  (and I do my calorie consumption before 7:00pm) Eating late at night, even if you have the spare calories, is a big NO NO!  How do I know how many calories to eat?  How do I keep up with my calories? Ahhh…problem solved.  I use a website and iPhone app called Lose It!It is a fantastic website to track your calories and your weight loss!  I weigh every day (usually) and record my progress.  However, I do most everything from my iPhone!  And it syncs to the website online. This is what the iPhone app looks like. Here you see the “My Day” screen.  Once you set up a plan, it will tell you your calorie budget for the day.  And it gives you a visual progress bar as to how close you are getting to your budget! You can add foods from here or go to the Log.This is my “Log” page so far today, with my breakfast recorded!  Now you might wonder how you add these foods. It on the little + symbol and you get this. Now choose your meal and check this next page out!The database is HUGE.  It has tons of foods to search from.  Restaurants, brand name foods.  You can add your previous meals, or create a new food on your own!  But the cool new feature is the Barcode scanner!  Yeah that makes it too easy!  Anyway you look at it, it is so easy to keep up with all of this!  If you look at your “Goal” page you can track your weight loss progress. Now, if you don’t mind others seeing your weight loss or your weight gain :(, you can add friends, and keep up with each others progress. Overall I give this iPhone app a 5 star rating!  I love it!!  So yes, my secret tool is Lose It!  I recommend you it.

Let’s break it down.  Drink water instead of sodas, and drink lots of it.  Set a calorie budget with an app or software, and stick with it.  Don’t eat late at night!!!!! Record your calories and your weight loss daily!  Oh and exercise….any exercise you can do will help a lot!

However you do it…Just do it!   It can be done!  Good luck!
